At the heart of our Catholic faith is a simple, profound truth: life is meant to be lived in communion. We are not meant to walk through this world alone. We belong to one another, called to carry one another through life’s joys and burdens. When we listen, offer comfort, share a meal, or accompany someone through a difficult season, we make the love of Christ visible.
Every October, the Catholic Church in the United States celebrates Respect Life Month. In the Jesuit tradition, we are invited to find God in all things and recognize the sacred dignity of every person. To cherish life is to honor the life before us, and to notice who is hurting, lonely, or hungry, and respond with compassion and love. In carrying one another, we become the Body of Christ together.
We have much to be grateful for in our community. We thank Sr. Whitney, Tim Severyn, and parishioner leaders for developing our new Visitation Ministry, offering connection and a caring presence to those who may be isolated, homebound, grieving, or in need of companionship. We are also grateful for St. X Church’s outreach efforts, helping us comfort our neighbors, feed those who are hungry, and support those facing hardship. This service reminds us that the love we celebrate at the altar is the same love we are called to share beyond our parish walls. Our ministries reflect who we are called to be as growing disciples, inviting each of us to recognize Christ in others.
We gather to worship, pray, and receive the Eucharist so that we may go forth carrying Christ’s love into our homes, workplaces, neighborhoods, and the wider world. Please take time to discern if now is the right time to get (more) involved in St. Xavier Church’s Social Mission efforts. Visit stxchurch.org/social-mission to learn more about the current ministry efforts.
Or perhaps now is the time to pray for and support organizations doing important work to serve our community, such as One Quest Health (the former Children’s Home of Northern Kentucky). You can learn more about One Quest Health at onequesthealth.org or on Instagram at @onequesthealth.
May we continue to carry one another, and go forth together as the Body of Christ, making God’s love present wherever we are called to serve.
